JUSTIN B. WEAVER SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE TRADES
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
The Justin B. Weaver Scholarship for the Trades is proud to announce its 7th annual scholarship offering to be awarded in the summer of 2025. The $1,500 will be given to either a high school student (graduating in spring of 2025) or a post high school graduate, having graduated prior to 2025 (includes having had received a GED).
Note: ALL AWARDS WILL BE MADE PAYABLE TO THE ACCREDITED TRADE CERTIFICATION SCHOOL OR PROGRAM.The Greater Waterbury Area towns will be notified of the scholarship opportunity for the high school student applicants; however, this scholarship is open to all Connecticut residents. Many of the major trade programs and schools will be informed of this scholarship opportunity for those post graduate students pursuing the trades.
QUALIFICATIONS:
One award will be offered to either of the two categories of applicants: the high school senior or the post high school graduate. The students’ applications will be reviewed by a committee and scored using a rubric. The highest scoring applications will be considered for the scholarship. The decision will be based on a blind panel review of the applications. Please answer all questions on the application with honesty and sincerity. Graduating Senior
To qualify, the high school senior, graduating in the Spring of 2025 must be a resident of CONNECTICUT, enrolling in a trades certification program (e.g. welding, electrical, plumbing, hairdressing, cosmetology etc), within the remaining 2025 calendar year.
Proof of enrollment must be given before the award will be distributed and a check will be written to the school.
Post Graduate prior to 2025
To qualify, the post high school graduate or GED recipient, having graduated in 2024 or prior, must be a resident of CONNECTICUT and enrolled or enrolling in a trades certification program (e.g. welding, electrical, plumbing, hairdressing, cosmetology etc), within the remaining 2025 calendar year.
Proof of enrollment must be given before the award will be distributed and a check will be written to the school.

Who is Justin?
2025 Scholarship Timeline (dates subject to change)
By March 31, 2025…
Website information containing how to download and submit the
application will be communicated to various Greater Waterbury Area
Superintendent offices for high school applicants and to various area trade
programs (financial aid/bursar office); however, this is open to all
CONNECTICUT residents.
By May 19, 2025…
All completed applications must be submitted to the P.O. Box listed on the
website or emailed. Due date is 5/19/25. Scholarship Committee reviews all
applications and verifies information for the applicant is correct.
By June 20, 2025…
The chosen applicant will receive an award notice on or about June 20, 2025.
Applicant will be notified by mail and the email provided on the application.
NOTE:
Payments will be made directly to the school on behalf of the recipient and will be presented on a date to be determined sometime in late June or early July.
Our last fundraiser/race for this scholarship was held on November 10, 2024.
